TOAST to the New Year

Wowsers, what a year 2016 has been for me! I want to say thank you to everyone that's supported, encouraged, commented, and shared their projects at CASology! This is a 2-weeker that will run through the holidays, so I really hope you get some time to join us. The cue card is: TOAST.

I used the partial die cutting technique, which of course I screwed up the first time lol. Maybe I'll make a video showing how I actually did this...I find cutting objects so challenging, really. I digress :) The glasses are a die from Simon Says Stamp and the numbers are from MFT Dienamics. I wanted my focal point to be like the glasses you see as party costumes and picture booth props. I used 6 coats of sparkle gold embossing powder on the die cut to make it shine. The sentiment is from Concord & 9th.

Let the rest of the DT help you toast to the New Year and check out their projects!
Don't forget to say cheers to the guest designer and a crazy awesome sponsor!

All Tied Up at CASology

It's CASology Tuesday, and I'm giving this cue card a go with some no-line Copic coloring!

This jazzy lady's shoes and bows come from Stamping Bella (The Right Shoes) and the sentiment is from Cleary Besotted (Laugh Out Loud: Christmas). I really worked on this one and truly appreciate all of the amazing no-line work from Alice Wertz even more (you should really see this girl work it out)!

Time to lace up your shoes and run over to the rest of the DT blogs :) Don't side step our talented GD and sweet sponsor this week either!

CASology is Outta This World

CASology is going intergalactic this week! Our cue card: SPACE.

The idea for my project was to use the cue card two ways: coloring resembling space and placing my sentiment inside the space created by the die cut.

I found a reason to attempt the galaxy-esque coloring that is so popular...but totally intimidated me. I used Dr. Ph Martin's Hydrus watercolors, a quality grade of watercolor paper (Arches), Copic Opaque White ink, and the Kuretake Gansai Tambi Starry Colors metallic watercolors. How great that even something so full of color and motion can still be CAS!

TIP: All I can say is that it'll look a hot mess before it looks great :) Work in layers; don't be afraid  of black watercolor paint/ink; and have fun flicking the white and metallic stars onto your work.

P.S. Copic Opaque White is not water-stable when dry and will smudge and run...I learned the hard way :)

The DT has some outta this world inspiration for you this week! So swing by and show them some love. And don't forget to pop in over at the GD and Sponsor pages this week!

On My Craft Table with Inktense Blocks

Am I the only one who buys art supplies and lets them sit in the packaging for weeks waiting on just the right project or chance to use them?? Good to know you're shaking your head no and I'm not alone :)

I bought these Derwent Inktense Blocks a couple of months ago and used them for the first time today and I'm in L-O-V-E! I have a large set of the Inktense Pencils, so I knew to expect rich, saturated color when I hit them with water, but whoa! A little goes a long way and you can very easily layer colors. Here's a quick 2-minute demo.

TIP: In order to see what the color would be when I wet it, I glued a thin strip of watercolor paper (10 ½ in. x ¼ in.) on the railing along each side of the blocks, then used a water brush to transfer the color. Depending on your adhesive of choice, be careful not to get the glue on the top side of the paper, otherwise it'll act as a resist and you won't be able to lay down color in that area.

I wanted to step outside my comfort zone, so I asked a friend for 3 bright colors. I was told, yellow, orange, and green...hmmm, definitely not the three I would have chosen to play with first. The end result is this card!

One of the characteristics I adore the most with Inktense products, is their ability to remain permanent when dry. I tried this out by layering some of the green on top of the orange (normally you'd get mud) and got a great effect!

If you like bright, vivid colors; the capability to layer colors without worry; a portable product (even though the tin doesn't snap closed tightly), then don't let the price point ($48 for the 36 count I purchased) deter you!

Thanks for joining me for #onmycrafttable and have a great day!

Birthday CANDLE at CASology!

How fun is blowing out the candles on your birthday cake??
Well, CASology want to see how creative your flames are this week.
Our new cue card: CANDLE

These digi stamps were provided by this week's lovely sponsor, Kitty Bee Designs. It started as one bee with a cake and the sentiment...

but with the help of photo editing software (Photoshop Elements), I can flip, add, and remove elements to make a cute birthday scene. If you've never used digi stamps, give it a go! I love their seemingly limitless versatility.

I used a black marker to color in a few stripes on the bees and added a little nest of yellow and black thread behind them. This is classic CAS cardmaking!

Buzz on over to the rest of the DT blogs and our talented GD and sponsor sites!
