Wicked Wednesday #193 & A Birthday

After a crazy 12 hour workday, I have to make my post quick to meet
the deadline, but I just had to post my ATC for this week's "HEART" theme

I knew that I wanted to create my background on a Gelli plate...success :)
Then I dug through my recent craft haul to find this great new Penny Black stamp.
Look, her dress has hearts on it!! Some Copic coloring (lots of learning left to
do with those) and OMG! Get it?? The sentiment came with the stamp :)

I also wanted to post a birthday card that I made for a little girl's birthday.
I'm so in love with my Vera Lane Studio digital stamps!! Just know that
you're gonna be seeing way more of these from me :) She's got an awesome
Etsy store where you can purchase and download them almost instantly.

Thanks for stopping by and browsing :)

CASology is ADORE-able!

Don't you just love Tuesday mornings?! The CASology team brings you a
new cue card this week and some great inspiration.

This was my first time EVER (even though this was version 3 of the card lol) attempting no line coloring with Copic markers. I stamped the world image from the Hero Arts Operation Write Home Epic Love stamp set in Antique Linen Distress Ink first. It totally disappeared as I brought in the green and blue Copics. I then cut out the circle by hand and on to the scary part...slapping the "you" die on top of my colored image and praying that it cut how I envisioned it in my head :)

Rookie Tips (take it from me):
  1. Use second generation stamping if you're using light colors like I did to make it really "no line". Hence a few versions :)
  2. Definitely use some washi tape to hold your die in place. This is too important to chance it, even with a magnetic spacer.
  3. Go slow removing the bits and pieces from your die and die cutting machine so you don't have to go on a scavenger hunt in your carpet like I did, lol!

And you know I had to add some sparkle to my card using my clear Wink of Stella pen! I loved this mostly neutral color scheme and how no line coloring really made for a softer look.

Hop over to the CASology Design Team members' blogs and their inspirations
and see what an "adore"-able card our Guest Designer created this week :)

Flower Power

I'm back at it again with a specially requested card!

You have to love a request from a guy to make a card for
a special young lady :) Here were his responses to my
normal Q&A when I'm asked to make a card:

Her favorite color? I have no idea
Girly girl, tomboy, good mix? Ummm, not really girly girl.
Symbols of love on the card? Not too many, but some hearts.
Anything special you want? Nope, just whatever you come up with.
Look at these images and point out what strikes you the most: All of them.
How old is she turning? 21 {yes a real answer lol}

So here was my final mixed media birthday card :)

"Clear" the Floor for CASology

Happy Tuesday!
CASology is back this week with a new challenge! Our cue card is: CLEAR.
Playing with acetate sheets and see-through elements is truly a challenge lol;
and photographing them with ease....ha! :)

My take on the cue card:

This background stamp from Hero Arts...OMG! So pretty!

To create this card:
I stamped the background stamp twice (once to use as the frame, and a second
to have an additional full flower to adhere inside). Plenty of fussy cutting there :)
Getting that inside flower into perfect position...wooo :) I used white embossing
powder to complete the sentiment inside by stamping "friend" so it fit
nicely inside the acetate window. Here's a snapshot from above too.

I hope this has got your wheels turning on how to add something "clear" to your design!

Hop over to the CASology Design Team members' blogs and their inspirations

ATC! What's that??

Have you ever started an online search on a topic, and hours later
realized you've gone down a rabbit hole and have no idea how you got there??
Well, I do it all the time lol! And this time, I love where I landed:

What's an ATC you ask? Artist Trading Card
It's a 2 ½" x 3 ½" piece of art.
Yep, that's all the real estate you get to create your masterpiece.

This challenge blog is for mixed media ATCs; the chance to really showcase
the "art" in Artist Trading Card.

This week's them is: Make It Sparkle
Here's my ATC:

I got this fairy from Vera Lane Studio. I've been dying to find a great reason

CASology 180: Open

This week at the CASology challenge blog, we're hoping to spark some interest
with the cue card: OPEN. What a...well...open concept :)

I knew I wanted to stamp into the open space, but how to add interest was the challenge.
I took my swivel tip X-Acto blade (this tool is in regular rotation for me)
and cut the heart out...eek, that doesn't sound nice lol.
I popped up the entire card front and stamped the sentiment
on some red cardstock to layer behind the open heart.

I really like the depth it created on this CAS design.

If you've followed my cards, then the dotted coloring technique
on this cow should look familiar :) The body of the cow is colored
using W1 and I used a few Es to color the spots. I love how the dots
give some texture that's a bit against the grain of regular coloring.
R-colored hearts finished with some Star Dust Stickles (another fave)
and you have a cutie patootie CAS card.

Butterfly Happy Birthday: A Mixed Media Card

What fun to sit down and make a mixed media card!
I was contacted by a friend to make a birthday card for her older sister.
She wanted a loving card that showcased her sister's love
of butterflies and fun personality. I love a challenge...
especially one where the limits are almost boundless. The result:

I used a ton of supplies on this card....as is typical with mixed media :)
The three die cut butterflies are from one of my favorite oldie-but-goodie
stamp & die cut sets from Sizzix and Hero Arts. For color, I used
Dina Wakley heavy body acrylics, gelatos, and Pitt big brush pens.

I would love to receive a created like this, so I really hope she enjoys it.
I can't wait to her the reaction! Thanks for stopping by and have a restful day.

This album will be your creation!

Graffiti for CTS 153

A last minute entry to play along at CAS(E) this Sketch!... my brain had to work this out lol. I knew I wanted to do graffiti on a brick wall, but I had to find the perfect sentiment. As I was flipping through my stamps, bingo! Everyone who knows me, gets my political rants and tolerates listening to a little bit of NPR and CNN on XM in my car :) In today's political environment, I think this sentiment says it all.

I embossed the card using a Tim Holtz embossing folder from Sizzix and sponged on a combo of Fired Brick and Vintage Photo Distress Inks to make the texture pop. I used the Distress Marker Spritzer Tool to make the sprays of Black Soot ink and finished it off by using tiny drops of India ink blown with the spritzer tool to mimic the drips that you get with graffiti being sprayed on a wall.

So let's just kiss :) Have a great day!

Big news!! And a huge thank you!

Whaaaatttt??! Less than a week into the new year, and a resolution
(more of a wish actually) is already checked off my list.
Mind. Blown.

I'm super excited to announce that I'm joining the CASology Design Team!

This host of amazingly talented card artists have inspired me with their
weekly contributions to the awesome CASology challenge blog...
where you should totally pop in and play along :)
I hope that I can create some sparks of creativity for all the players,
so let's get started!

This week's cue card is: SIMPLE

Talk about a CAS (clean & simple) card, huh?
One layer, 3 colors, and all stamps from the same stamp set.
I love the combo of yellow, gray, and black. That pop of brightness...yum :)
The  stamp set is "Time to Say Thanks" from Create a Smile;
it's a great set with graphic floral images and sentiments.

So, from my whole heart,
danke, gracias, merci, and THANKS for stopping by,
supporting my crafting, and your kind comments!

Merry Merry Merry

Here's one last holiday card for the road :) The CASology challenge blog wrapped up 2015 with the cue card: MERRY. As much as I wanted to do the "Deidre thing" and use a play on the word, I figured I'll have plenty of time for that with Feb 14th around the corner lol. Here's a fun way to end the holiday season:

Ok, so snowmen are my favorite winter icon and when I saw this guy, I got totally excited. This was a free digi stamp (hugs for that) from Free Dearie Dolls Digi Stamps
